This million-square-foot data center would be the biggest in the state. How local leaders are challenging it

After initially approving a 950,000-square-foot AI data center in April, Imperial County supervisors reversed course and declared a 45-day moratorium on data centers following intense community opposition at a more than hour-long public hearing. The facility would be California's largest data center. Residents raised concerns about air quality, water consumption and environmental impacts on their rural community.
